Elmm's Webhub

Welcome to my website!

Under Construction

This is my central hub so to speak. I'll be using it for all sorts of things I’ve got going on. I think of it as a Elmm central. It holds a few different hobbies/ways I spend my free time like crochet and media thoughts. I hope it can inspire you.

FYI for all pages: I swear. I'll also try to give sensitive topic warnings whenever they occur within reason. If you see typos, no you don't.

Why is this place?

Well, there's a lot of reasons, but 3 primary ones; connection, personal development, and independent ownership.

Connection: Kinda self-explainitory. I wanna make friends with some shared interests and to bounce inspiration off of each other. Also I just want more friends.

Personal Development: So because I'm in a new area (and I currently only work part time) I have an absurd amount of free-time. I've been picking up hobbies/projects left and right to try to fill out my days in a ways that are more meaningful than doomscrolling and binging TV shows. This include learning some basic web design (hence the very unrefined and primitive look), crocheting (which I actually picked up over the summer while I was unemployed), and a new style of journaling/blogging called a digital garden. There's also a reach project I've had in mind for a long time but I'll need to learn a lot more code to pull that off but I realized that a website is probably the best medium for it. But who knows I might create new tabs for new hobbies I pick up.

Independent Ownership: I know this is a commonly shared value across the indie web; but I want a place free from corporate and algorithmic influence. For one, I don't think its all that cool to prioritize certain kinds of topics, mediums, styles, or identities over others. Even more so I don't like the for profit shit. I've also been pretty influenced by how I've seen different social media platforms change. For instance, youtube was one of the best platforms for sucking people into the alt-right pipeline in the 2010s (and still can be today). Similarly is whatever the fuck boot licking is going on between Trump and all the tech billionaires like how meta decided to make it pretty ok to say some transphobic shit. Then you had whatever the fuck the tiktok ban and revival was, and I think the thought of losing a whole bunch of my own work being lost affected me (also the amount of small businesses too). Lastly, is whenever platforms aren’t able to make the transition to become profitable….well they often die. I often think of the ever-present threat of tumblr closing down now adays. While neocities isn’t perfect in this regard the fact that it is a community funded platform that prioritizes expression eliminates most and minimizes the rest of the concerns I have with traditional platforms and it is an easier jump to make as a broke 20 something with no knowledge of coding.
